Where to find Dino in the audience at BlackHat
Dino Dai Zovi | July 28th, 2006 | Filed Under: Uncategorized
BlackHat is coming up and it looks like there will be some great talks this year. I’m really looking forward to some of them for various reasons:
- Halvar Flake, “RE 2006: New Challenges Need Changing Tools”
Halvar, please tell me how to make reversing C++ not the most excruciating experience ever. - Jamie Butler et al, “R^2: The Exponential Growth of Rootkit Techniques”
Rootkits and their techniques are becoming increasingly common among attackers and even software companies, see Jamie discuss the state of the art. - HD Moore, “Metasploit Reloaded”
Metasploit 3.0 is now in Ruby. Double my pleasure, double my fun! - Adrian Marinescu, “Windows Vista Heap Management Enhancements”
Windows heap exploits are quickly becoming an endangered species. I will pour out some Olde English for my dead bug homies. - Joanna Rutkowska, “Subverting Vista Kernel For Fun And Profit”
Joanna will also be talking about using hardware virtual machines rootkits. I’ll be there taking notes like mad.

July 29th, 2006 11:40 pmHey Dino,
I have to warn you up-front: The talk will not present ready-made tools but mainly discuss things that need to be solved.
Concerning the C++ goop I will probably post some things on my blog soonish. It’s not that bad. Identify constructors and vtables and you get class data layouts. Then traverse vtables to resolve indirect calls as good as you can.
Will write more soon.

August 3rd, 2006 2:02 pmAll this “root kit” and “wireless hacking” and “taking complete control of my computer before I even know what’s going on” kind of stuff is sort of interesting, I guess, but what I’m really interested in is the “Hacking World of Warcraft” seminar!!!! Dino, PLEASE attend this one and tell me about it, I really NEED to advance my avatar’s standing and get some sweet magic weapons and I don’t have the time to do it the old-fashioned way.
Have fun presenting today! Wish I could be there to see it. …No actually, I don’t really wish that. I would probably be bored out of my mind. But I hope you have fun!
